Fistful of Lead - Galactic Heroes - Scatter Terrain Special Part II

Welcome Grognards and Young Gun to SCATTER TERRAIN SPECIAL PART II!!

Below are some offerings from Fantasy Flight in the Star Wars Legion offerings.  These are classic features from Tatooine.  Below are some moisture vaporators and control panels.  No water farm would be without them on Tatooine!

Simple yet effective!  Hope you enjoyed them.  Next up, we move to some buildings to get our desert town on the map of Tatooine!  Part III to the terrain special is close at hand.

Until then, make sure you get up on the ridge, and make those repairs before Uncle Owen finds out you've been off at Tosche Station picking up power convertors or they'll be hell to pay!  ...and GAME ON!

Fistful of Heroes - Galactic Heroes - Scatter Terrain Special Part I

Welcome fellow Wargamers to a special 'Of Dice and Army Men' post, SCATTER TERRAIN SPECIAL PART I!

If you've been following along, last blog I posted a cargo hover speeder truck and mentioned that I had also received numerous extra sci-fi crates along with the vehicle.  They since have been turned into scatter terrain.  Along with these, I also picked up small wooden barrels from the wood craft section at the local Hobby Lobby to double as sci-fi containment barrels.

Mixed with those are supply crates from Fantasy Flight.  See if you can pick them out from the rest.

And, with those (say it isn't so!) I also was able to purchase some Crooked Dice terrain to add to the sci-fi flavor and a little variation.  So, without further fanfare, I present to you part I of my scatter terrain!

Having put these together, I must say, I have a real appreciation of what good scatter terrain can do for you table top.  Not only are they there to break up open areas, provide cover and improve the general look of the table, the also conserve as objectives for scenarios.

Hope you enjoyed the first installment of my terrain efforts.

Next up...some iconic terrain from Mos Eisley!

So load that cargo in the transport and GAME ON!

Fistful of Lead - Galactic Heroes - Hoth Project

Welcome fellow Grognards and Young Guard to another posting of 'Of Dice and Army Men!'

Today's blog is a little taste of an upcoming project around Star Wars and Hoth!

When Vader was ready to deal with the Rebels on Hoth, who did he turn to?  General Veers, of course!  General Veers was an reliable commander of the Empire and Vader counted on him to crack the nut of the Rebel stronghold on Hoth.  The Assault on Hoth included AT-ATs, AT-STs and Imperial Snowtroopers.

For awhile now, I have been entrenched in building up forces for Galactic Heroes on the planet of Tatooine.  One day, I had the itch to paint the following two models.  I scratched that itch and it gave me a breath of painting fresh air that allowed me to go back and paint some more troops for Tatooine.

The figure below is from Fantasy Flight.  I rebased him and used my acrylic texture base and mixed it with some acrylic white for the snow.  Applying the paste liberally to the base to catch the snow pack effect, I also added some larger gravel for accent.

General Veers....

For the next figure, I had found a 3D print online.  Originally, in Empire Strikes Back, this creature had limited screen time, and mostly as a partial creature.  With the film revisions, this creature got some additional play and full body shots at that.  For my second figure, I present, ...

...the WAMPA!

There you have it, a taste of things to come!  On the deck are some Imperial and Rebel Snowtroopers, Luke, Han and Leia in snow gear and more!

I have a few more figs go to to break my 2021 record.  I hope you will continue with me on this quest!

Until then, GAME ON!

Fistful of Lead - Galactic Heroes - Rebel Heroes

Welcome Grognards and Young Guard!  So glad you could join me for another posting of 'Of Dice and Army Men'!

As promised, today we go to the light side of the force and bring some Rebel Heroes to the table!

First up is a pair of 3D models I found on line.  They depict two of our Heroes, Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, in Stormtrooper armor, as seen in Star Wars A New Hope!  I love these models.  I can see an escape from the Detention Center scenario coming up somewhere down the line!  I have some terrain ideas, so can't wait to get on that project!

Next up is a model I found online.  This one was previously painted.  I performed some touch up, rebased the model and gave it a wash.

Our heroes are ready to battle the Empire!

Until next time, May the Force be with you!....and GAME ON!

Fistful of Lead - Galactic Heroes - Imperial Command

Welcome Grognards and Young Guard to another installment of 'Of Dice and Army Men'!

Every good Imperial Task Force needs good command.  Below you'll find a variety of Imperial Officers and Navy with Droid support.

Models are a mix of Fantasy Flight and 3D printed models from online.

Hope you enjoy!

Next time, I've painted Imperial Infantry; the poor foot slogger, cannon fodder of the Empire!

Until next time, keep discipline within the ranks with an iron fist or a blaster and GAME ON!

Fistful of Lead - Galactic Heroes - Imperial Deathtroopers

Greeting Grognards and welcome to all of the Young Guard out there!

Followers might ask 'Grognard, what the heck is a Grognard?'

In short, I'd tell them this was a word for 'Old Soldier'.  I've been playing table top wargames since 1988, so I guess the name fits.  To head off the next hypothetical question, 'Grognard, why do you welcome the 'Young Guard', and who are they ?'  The 'Young Guard' were the young or new soldiers in Napoleon's Army.  I look at all of the young and new players as the 'Young Guard' of our hobby.  I hope some of this 'Grognard's' experience and love of the hobby gets shared and conveyed to the 'Young Guard' to keep our hobby healthy and growing for years to come.

So to the fellow Grognards and all the Young Guard out there, below is another favorite Imperial troop of mine, the Deathtroopers!  These fellows only came about recently, in Rogue One, but they have made an impact on the Star Wars community for sure!

Make no mistake about it, these men in black are no Will Smith!  They are hard core killers of the Empire, dealing out Imperial justice to even the troops of the Empire!  Expect no mercy if you find yourself on the hot end of their blasters!

Until next time, keep a sharp eye out for the MIB and GAME ON!

Fistful of Lead - Galactic Heroes - Imperial Scout Troopers

Welcome back fellow Grognards and Young Guard!

I'm playing a little catch-up with my postings, getting ever closer to breaking the old 2021 painting record.  Glad you could join me for another blog.

Today, I'm posting my work on Imperial Scouts.  These guys are the lightly armored front men of the Imperial forces.  With or without their speeder bikes, they still are a force to reckon with!  Models are by Fantasy Flight.

I look forward to getting a squad of these Imperials on the table soon to hunt down some Rebel scum!

Until next time, keep your blaster at the ready and your speeder bike running and GAME ON!

Fistful of Lead - Galactic Heroes - Imperial Sandtroopers

Greetings fellow Grognards and Young Guard!

It has been awhile since my last blog, but not since my last painting session.  So much to blog about as I draw closer and closer to passing my 2021 painting totals.

This post is for one of favorite Star Wars characters, Imperial Sandtroopers.  I have loved the look of these guys since I was a kid.  They are the foot sloggers in the special gear.  The police force of Mos Eisley.  I have amassed a bunch of these models and finally got to sit down and paint some up.

I also learned, during my photo session, how brittle 3D printed models can be.  The first Sandtrooper I picked up to put in front of the camera was the Sandtrooper Captain.  In the process of moving him from the tray to the stage, I dropped him onto my hardwood floor!  His head came flying off his shoulders.  Luckily, I was able to glue it back into position.

Hope you enjoy the pictures!  There are many more to come.  All Sandtroopers are 3D prints from online with the exception of the Heavy Weapon Trooper, who is from Fantasy Flight Games.

In the next few blogs, I'll be cutting over to some terrain as I have been hard at work, getting ready to throw down our first game of Galactic Heroes with painted models and new terrain!

Until next time, keep the sand out of your blasters and GAME ON!

Fistful of Lead - Galactic Heroes - Shoretroopers

Welcome fellow Grognards and Young Guard!

Glad you could be with me for this posting of 'Of Dice and Army Men'!

My latest project was truly a joy to paint.  I have always wanted to add some Imperial Shoretroopers to my ranks since seeing Rogue One, but there was nothing out there on the market to be had.  Then came Star Wars Legion by Fantasy Flight Games.  I wasn't interested in getting into the new game itself, but absolutely love the model range and access to said models.  Since the game erupted on the seen, it has spawned numerous vendors of 3D printed models who make some great products to put on your table top.

Enter Fistful of Lead, Galactic Heroes.  Small scale skirmish (which can be run as a large scale battle as well using their 'Bigger Battles' rules) based, so fewer models needed.  Perfect for allowing me to buy more models!

One fine day, trolling the ebay notifications, I was happy to run into a seller who was selling Shoretroopers already base coated.  They would require rebasing and painting but they were an absolute steal!  After some delay and getting stuck in and painting them, they are finally finished and pictured below for your enjoyment.  IMHO, they are some of the best miniatures I have ever painted.  Personally, I am thoroughly pleased with the outcome.

Two units of seven miniatures were purchased, each including some kind of mortar.  They have all been rebased.   All miniatures are made by Fantasy Flight Games.  I'm looking forward to getting these guys on the table!

Next Time...I hope to be adding some more 3D printed model purchases to the ranks for Galactic Heroes and more wins in the 2022 Painted Minis column.
